How Ondo State First Lady Met Husband During Nysc

The wife of the recently inaugurated Governor of Ondo State, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has opened up on her marriage to Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu, and how she met her husband during NYSC while serving in Enugu State 37 years ago, in a recent interview with Mary Ekah.

According to the Ondo State first lady, it was love at first sight, as she fell in love with his broad shoulders.
Here are excerpts from the interview with Mary Ekah of ThisDay;

“It’s a long story. Actually my husband was a youth corper then in Enugu.

I was also posted to Enugu. So a friend of mine visited me and then she came along with her boyfriend who also came along with my husband. That was how we met and it was love at first sight. I think people frown at love at first sight but it worked for us.

I fell in love with his broad shoulders. Then he was really looking very cute. I can still remember what he was wearing that day. I won’t forget – a red shirt, long sleeves, and jean trousers. He was really looking great and then we were very young and restless.

That was like 37 years ago. He couldn’t even take me out because he didn’t have money as a youth corper. It was quite magnetic and that was it. And besides I have always said that whoever that was going to marry me must be able to sweep me off my feet completely and that was exactly what happened.

There is a three-year age difference between us. I am older than him anyway. I was like 25 then while he was 22. It was love that really endured. I had graduated and in my place when a girl graduates from the university, suitors come from left, right and centre.

And your parents would expect you to go for a self-made man with everything. But I have always known that there was no way I could have married a self-made man. I will rather build a home from the scratch with you because I want to have a say in my home.”

DG Debunks Scraping Scheme Rumors

Brigadier General, Zuleman Kazaure, the Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), reacted on Monday to speculation that there was a plan to scrap the scheme.

He said that the rumor wasn’t true, adding that NYSC would continue to contribute to national deceopment.

Kazaure, was represented by the Director of Mobilisation, Chief Frank Ekpunobi, stated this at Issele-Uku, Delta, during a visit to the camp.

The DG further described the speculation as a result of “poverty of information.’’

He said that the NYSC period in the life of an individual was a period of stop gap and period to differentiate between fantasy and reality.

Kazaure recalled that the scheme was created after the three years of the civil war with the sole aim of national integration.

He added that since then, NYSC had performed wonderfully well in the area of education, healthcare delivery and increased literacy.

Kazaure pointed out that there was no where in Nigeria that people do not find corps members rendering services to their fatherland.

The NYSC DG, however, advised the corps members to stay in their places of primary assignment, avoid unnecessary traveling and work hard to bag awards.

Earlier, the Delta Coordinator, Mr Benjamin Omotade, said that camping activities commenced on a promising note.

Omotade said that different agencies have cordial relationship with the camp officials and that staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) were on ground to render qualitative healthcare services to the corps members.

How To Join OBS

The idea of going to a military boot camp never sounded appealing to me so when my NYSC Service Year came, I began to look for ways I would escape activities. (That sufferhead life ain’t for everyone🙆🏽.)

I graduated as a Mass Communication student so when I asked past Corpers the first thing they told me was join OBS. I did and God knows I didn’t suffer.

OBS is translated as Orientation Broadcast Service. It is the broadcast service that helps pass information across in camp. There is usually a studio with complete equipment including speakers that are stationed all around the camp.

Now to join the OBS, you need to locate the studio within the first five days as a lot of people would want to join. You will be interviewed immediately by the attendant there but you might not make the final list because preference to Communication students, DJs and electrical students. In this case, you have to convince the attendant why you would be an asset.

But it’s not all about skipping parades and everything o😂… You will tend to the studio other administrative work. Just that you simply have some privileges.

I hope this post has been helpful to you. Be sure to share it🙏🏽

P.S: Corpers posted to Nasarawa Mr. Obediah is the attendant there and he’s very friendly so be sure to be free with him.

Corpers To Benefit From NHIS Scheme.

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has confirmed that it would include National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in its scheme, so they can access health care easily.

This was stated by NYSC Director of Press, Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, in a statement released on yesterday, Friday.
She said the Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf, disclosed this when he visited Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure, Director General of the NYSC scheme.

According to the statement, the decision was in compliance with a Presidential directive to NHIS authorities.

NHIS staff will be expected to visit orientation camps, to capture biometric data of corps members.

“As the corps members get posted to places of primary assignment, the NHIS would assign each of them to a hospital where they will be getting treatment in the event of illness.
“We have made a proposal to the government to enable it make direct payment to hospitals that will render healthcare services to corps members instead of doing so through Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs).

“This will avoid hitches often occasioned by the failure of some HMOs to make appropriate payments to hospitals,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.

“Increase Monthly Allowance For Corpers” Sokoto state Corsinator Laments.

The National Youths Service Corps Coordinator  Sokoto State, Musa Abubakar, has advocated the increment of the monthly allowances to corps members in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that Mr. Abubakar spoke about this in Sokoto on Friday shortly after paying a courtesy call on the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III.

The coordinator and his management team met the sultan behind closed doors, alongside other senior councillors.

“The present allowance of N19,800 to each corps member per month is no longer enough considering the prevailing economic situation in the country.

“I will not make any specific suggestions in this direction, but I strongly support increasing it immediately,” Mr. Abubakar said.

He further suggested the review of the monthly allowances paid to the corps members anytime the national minimum wage is reviewed in the country.

He also kicked against calls for the scrapping of the scheme, saying that it bolsters national unity, curbs poverty and youth restiveness.

Mr. Abubakar told the news team that he was at the palace of the sultan to pay homage and seek his royal blessings.

“The sultan is a national father and he is a symbol of national unity.

“He has also assured us of his sustained support to ensure the success of the scheme,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Abdulkadir, has assured the NYSC officials of sustained support and adequate security during any batch’s service year.

Speaking while receiving the NYSC coordinator at the Police Headquarters, on Friday, Mr. Abdulkadir averred: “The command owes it a duty to ensure that the scheme succeeds.

“We will continue to accord priority to the security of corps members across the state,” he added.

Earlier, the coordinator had assured that the scheme would do everything humanly possible to sustain cordial relationship between it and the command.

According to him, the police is a critical stakeholder in the NYSC scheme and this relationship will be further galvanised.

How To Get Ready for NYSC

Hence NYSC has release the Timetable for Batch B Stream II, a lot of people have been confused on what to do and how to go about with the registration so I’m here to help you out👏🏼

2. For those who weren’t scheduled to participate in Stream I, check on the website when it opens to see if your schools senate has submitted your name. If they have you can proceed to registration but if not, that means you aren’t scheduled to be in Batch B Stream II.

3. For registration, you need to go to a NYSC accredited center to fill in the procedures. This can be a teidious process as a lot of people in Nigeria are also registering so you should expect that yours might take at most two days to do.

4. Before or during this period, you should start prepping your medical report as it is needed as part of the documents in camp.

The post below will show you the documents needed during your NYSC orinetation period:THINGS NEEDED FOR CAMP (DOCUMENTS)
