POLICE AND NYSC COLLABORATE TO FORM COMPLAINT RESPONSE UNIT(CRU) TO TACKLE ASSAULT BY OFFICERS
As part of their bid to change the face and perception about the Nigerian Police Force NPF, the Nigerian Police Force Corpers Forum, in collaboration with the Nigerian Police force on Wednesday the 26th of October launched a sensitization on the Complaint Response Unit (CRU).
The program which was launched by the immediate for IG of Police Solomon Arase on the 15th of November 2015, as one of the measures to put an end to the culture of impunity by police officers who brutalize and molest citizens. The unit was created to resolve all complaints, concerns and queries regarding activities of men of the Nigerian Police Force.
The sensitization program began with a trip to Efab mall in Garki, to educate the shop owners on their rights as citizens of Nigeria, and then to Garki modern market and finally to the Wuse market.
The platform which is open to the general public to lodge whatever complaint they have against any police officer who they come in contact with, who didn’t treat them well during their dealings. The platform operates such that it is always on 24/7 so as to ensure an on the dot response whenever a call of complaint is put across against any police officer.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police NPF-CRU –Ag. ACP Abayomi Shogunle in a briefing after the sensitization process said that it is high time Nigerians moved on from that archaic mentality and fear of the police, he encourage that people should report any unlawful activities or experience they encounter during the course of their dealing with the police. He promised that the CRU is here to stay and will not phase out with time. He also added that the CRU is the first of its kind in Sub-Sahara Africa and the motto of the Unit is “NO TO IMPUNITY”
