Nigerian Senate Sends Commitee To Investigate Brutalized Zamfara Corper Incident

Today, thr Nigerian Senate has asked its committee on Youth and Sports to investigate the incident that led to the alleged brutality of Micheal Esi Uwakwe, the Corper serving in Zamfara State.

The motion was raised by Senator Philip Aduda (FCT) who said that the incident had been trending for over two days on Social media and wanted the upper chamber to carry out its own investigations.

TThe media had reported that Micheal was said to have been brutalised by the police in Zamfara State for punishing the ward of an influential figure in the state due to her disrespect in class.

The senator reminded the house on the need to provide Corpers with security and assistance to help them complete their service year and therefore it was improper for a parastatal that is meant to protect citizens, to brutalize them instead. He also implored the Senate to look into the real reason the affected Corper had been redeployed to the East.

The deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said that in order for action to be carried out, further investigation was needed therefore he would not jump into the matter without finding out the truth about what actually happened to Uwakwe. Therefore the relevant committee will be given one week to go investigate and report back to the senate in due time with its findings.
