LG pledges to pay marriage expenses of serving NYSC members
Kaiama Local Government Council of Kwara State has pledged to finance the marriage of any serving female National Youth Service Corps member that marries a man from the council area.
The chairman of the council, Alhaji Alhassan Bagudu, made the pledge on Wednesday in Kaiama while receiving the 2015 Batch “A” corps members posted to the council.
Bagudu said the council would also pay 20 per cent of marriage expenses of any male NYSC member that marries a lady from the area.
The Council boss said the gesture is to foster unity in the country in line with the objective of the NYSC scheme.
He said the council would set up a farm for the corps members serving in the area to help the agrarian community boost food production.
Bagudu said he had directed the Secretary to the Local Government to acquire land for an immediate take-off of the projects, which would serve as their community service.
The chairman enjoined the NYSC members that had interest in agriculture to key into the projects.
He said the department of agriculture had been directed to provide the corps members with tractors and other farm equipment needed for cultivation of various crops, roots and tubers.
“I have to tell you that you are `corpers of change, corpers of destiny’ because you are coming at a time that change is about to happen.
“I was a corps member like you some years back. So, feel free to come to me for anything,’’ he said.
The chairman guaranteed the safety of the NYSC members in the council. (NAN)
