Senator Shehu Sani has asked the Federal government to make service year voluntary or provide life insurance cover for all corpers during the programme. Sani said this during a condolence visit to the family of Lawal Kontagora, a youth corps member allegedly killed by unknown gunmen in Kaduna recently.
“This is not the first time, it has always been the case, when it happens, we mourn we condemn the action. This happened in my constituency and he is part of my constituency. I have a duty to pursue this case to its logical conclusion. If such things happen to others and they are being ignored, I virtually will not fold my arms and see this kind of things happen. I am taking this issue to the National Assembly. We have to choose what to do and being a corps member. It is either the government makes the service year voluntary or there should be increased funding or insurance’’ he said
The management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has debunked reports asking relocated corps members to collect discharge certificates from their original state of deployment.
The corps, via its twitter page @Nysc_ ng, called on corps members and stakeholders to disregard the information as it is false.
The post reads: “Corps members and other stakeholders are advised to disregard this; it was not posted by the NYSC, please.
“In line with established procedures, Corps members are to collect their Certificates in states where they completed the service. Thank you.”

NYSC Batch B 2015 Passing Out Date is out! The NYSC Management has reacted to a fake document being circulated online purported to be from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in respect of the NYSC Batch B 2015 passing out date.
The fake document which was made with a scanned official letterhead was dated 16th September, 2016. The document dismisses the dates set for the passing-out of the NYSC Batch ‘B’ 2015 Corps members all in a bid to cause confusion.
